California Federation of Teachers Urges No on Prop 45, The Corporate Polluting Projects Pollution

Powerful Teachers Union Joins 300+ Organizations Opposed

SACRAMENTO – The California Federation of Teachers (CFT) today announced their opposition to Proposition 45, the California Chamber of Commerce’s 41-page ballot initiative that would roll back state environmental protections and weaken the state’s defense against President Trump’s attack on state clean air, clean water and public health laws.

"Educators and students deserve to live and learn in healthy communities,” said CFT President Jeff Freitas. “Prop 45 is a Trump-like attack on our environmental safeguards, limits community input on projects, and allows corporate developers to take dangerous short cuts on polluting projects. We urge Californians to vote no on Prop 45.”

CFT comprises 147 local unions representing dedicated education workers from early childhood through university. These AFT/CFT local unions can be found throughout the state, from Del Norte County in the north to San Diego in the south.

CFT joins more than 300 other organizations opposed to Proposition 45. They include the California Democratic Party, California Professional Firefighters and the State Building & Construction Trades Council of California.

With the Trump Administration attacking California’s landmark environmental protections, Proposition 45 would further harm air, water quality, and public health. The independent Legislative Analyst’s Office concluded the measure will likely cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.
