<p><strong>Prop 45 guts the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) — </strong>California’s most important air and water quality protection law, which requires that harm to air, water, and wildlife be disclosed and reduced before projects are approved. <h4><span style="color: var(--color-text-accent-primary); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text-accent-primary);">Recent polling also shows 72% of voters support strong environmental review</span></h4><p><strong>SACRAMENTO, CA </strong>- A powerful and well-resourced coalition of California’s labor, public health, environmental, and environmental justice leaders today announced the formation of a campaign committee to oppose the California Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 ballot measure that would dramatically roll back the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the state’s landmark public health and environmental review law.</p><p>The committee — operating as One Voice for California, sponsored by labor, health and environmental organizations — unites the organizing strength of California labor, the credibility of the state’s leading public health and environmental advocates and funders, and the people power of more than 250 organizations and growing.</p><p>The new committee comprises The State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, Clean and Healthy California, and a fast-growing coalition including the American Nurses Association\California, California Environmental Voters, California Environmental Justice Alliance Action, and the National Wildlife Federation.</p><p>"The State Building Trades stands with the environmental community in opposing the Cal Chamber’s attempt to dismantle key protections under California’s landmark environmental law," <strong>said Chris Hannan, President of the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California</strong>. "Undermining the public’s ability to meaningfully participate in project approvals would move our state backward, leaving California facing an unsustainable future of moratoriums, stalled projects, and worsening natural disasters.”</p><p>"Let's call this measure what it is: a power grab that lets polluters build what they want, where they want, and forces our communities to live with polluted air and water, and hazardous chemicals," <strong>said Howard Penn, Executive Director of the Planning and Conservation League</strong>.
