California Professional Firefighters Urges No on Prop 45, The Corporate Polluting Projects Pollution

Powerful Firefighters Union Joins 300+ Organizations Opposed

SACRAMENTO – The California Professional Firefighters (CPF) today announced their opposition to Proposition 45, the California Chamber of Commerce’s 41-page ballot initiative that would roll back state environmental protections and weaken the state’s defense against President Trump’s attack on state clean air, clean water and public health laws.

"It’s critical to California’s firefighters that the law requires rigorous review of potential public safety hazards,” says Darrell Roberts, President, California Professional Firefighters. “Prop 45 guts the public review process that keeps our communities safe and healthy, both in assessing the ability for firefighters to respond to emergencies and in the prevention of toxic exposure risks. California’s communities cannot afford Prop 45’s attempt to undermine necessary safeguards that protect the public.”

CPF represents 35,000 professional firefighters and emergency medical service personnel across the state. Its mission is to protect and advocate for the rights, wages, benefits, and working conditions of its members.

CPF joins more than 300 other organizations opposed to Proposition 45. They include the California Democratic Party, California Federation of Teachers, and the State Building & Construction Trades Council of California.

With the Trump Administration attacking California’s landmark environmental protections, Proposition 45 would further harm air, water quality, and public health. The independent Legislative Analyst’s Office concluded the measure will likely cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.
