REPORT: OIL, UTILITY, DATA CENTER MONEY POURING INTO PASSING PROP 45

Capital & Main Investigation Details Contributions to Corporate Measure
to Gut State’s Environmental Protections

SACRAMENTO – Oil, utility, and tech money is flowing into the effort to pass Proposition 45, according to a new report from Capital & Main, the award-winning investigative news nonprofit. Proposition 45 is the California Chamber of Commerce’s 41-page ballot initiative that would roll back state environmental protections and weaken the state’s defense against President Trump’s attack on state clean air, water, and public health laws.

“Big Tech companies and California’s largest oil and gas well operator are spending millions to pass a ballot measure that would clear hurdles for industrial projects such as gas pipelines and possibly data centers,” notes the investigation. “Utilities that could benefit from faster approvals for transmission and distribution infrastructure, as well as methane gas capture projects, also gave millions in support of Proposition 45…campaign records show companies with data center interests back the proposition.”
