ACLU SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: VOTE NO ON PROP 45
Group Notes “Environmental review isn't red tape. It's how communities get a say before a project moves forward in their neighborhood.”
LOS ANGELES – The ACLU of Southern California today released its 2026 Voter Guide urging a “No” vote on Proposition 45.
Proposition 45 is the California Chamber of Commerce’s 41-page ballot initiative that would roll back state environmental protections and weaken the state’s defense against President Trump’s attack on state clean air, water, and public health laws.
“ACLU SoCal says NO on Prop 45. Environmental justice demands that frontline communities hold real power in decisions that shape their neighborhoods and their health,” writes the group. “Environmental review isn't red tape. It's how communities get a say before a project moves forward in their neighborhood.
“The communities hit hardest by pollution and displacement depend on that process to protect themselves. Fast-tracking environmental review means less input by the people who live closest to what's being built. Prop 45 narrows the window for affected communities to review projects and raise concerns across housing, transportation, water, health, and energy projects.”
ACLU SoCal joins 500 other organizations opposing Prop 45. They include the League of Women Voters of California, American Lung Association, and the California Professional Firefighters.
“We are pleased that ACLU SoCal is recommending voting against the polluter-backed Prop 45 that is being funded by PG&E, Edison, and corporate interests,” said Woody Little, spokesperson for the No on Prop 45 campaign. “ACLU SoCal joins millions of Californians in recognizing that Prop 45 is an overreaching measure that will silence the voices of communities opposing data centers, sprawl and harmful projects.”
