Taxpayer Advocacy Group Joins Nearly 400 Organizations Opposed

SACRAMENTO – The Middle Class Taxpayers Association, a grassroots movement of California taxpayers, today announced its opposition to Proposition 45, the California Chamber of Commerce’s 41-page ballot initiative that would roll back state environmental protections and weaken the state’s defense against President Trump’s attack on state clean air, clean water and public health laws.

“Prop 45 will increase costs for taxpayers while doing nothing to lower housing prices, utility bills or other costs for consumers,” said Middle Class Taxpayers Association Chairman John Valencia. “It leaves taxpayers picking up the tab for pollution cleanup while corporations profit.”

The Middle Class Taxpayers Association is a nonprofit voice for the middle class on taxpayer issues, founded on principles of fairness, accountability, and informed public policy.

The group joins nearly 400 other organizations opposed to Proposition 45, including the League of Women Voters of California, California Professional Firefighters, and the American Lung Association.

The independent Legislative Analyst’s Office concluded the measure will likely cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.
