PPIC POLL SHOWS PROPOSITION 45 CONTINUES ITS NOSEDIVE
Results Show Growing Number of Californians Oppose Measure
to Weaken Environmental Review
SACRAMENTO – A new poll released today by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) shows voters are likely to reject Proposition 45, the California Chamber of Commerce’s 41-page ballot initiative that would roll back state environmental protections and weaken the state’s defense against President Trump’s attack on state clean air, water, and public health laws.
The poll shows the measure continues its nosedive, dropping an astonishing 27 percent from its initial 73 percent support in a PPIC poll in July. Now, for the first time in PPIC polling, a majority of likely voters oppose the measure by four points (46% yes, 50% no).
“Proposition 45 is circling the drain and heading for defeat because voters are discovering what it actually does,” said No on Prop 45 spokesperson Woody Little. “Prop 45 provides short-cuts for data center approval, advances the Trump Administration’s war on California’s environment and will cost the state’s taxpayers $100 million or more per year right out of the gate. There is bipartisan opposition to this overreaching measure funded by polluters, utilities and corporate special interests.”
Proposition 45 is opposed by the California League of Women Voters, American Lung Association of California, California Professional Firefighters, California Nurses Association and a coalition of more than 550 groups.
